HTML bold tag is used to extra highlight a text. In webpage if we want to highlight a text, then we can use bold tag. (Highlight: text with extra dark colour and text size little bit larger than normal text size).
Bold tag- ‘<b></b>’. Bold tag too has close tag. Which ever text we want to set as bold text, we wrap the text or texts with bold tags.

In a webpage, when we want to draw attention of reader or viewer or user towards certain text, then we can use bold tag. Bold tag is used to highlight definition or term or text around which the webpage is focussed.
What does bold tag do in a HTML Webpage?
When a browser come across a bold tag wrapped around text or texts, it bolds the wrapped text. It stylises the wrapped text or texts with dark colour, and extra font weight.

- Decide the beginning point. Here just before ‘sample’ is the beginning point. Place ‘<b>’ here.
